Sally Pryce is one of the leading harpists of her generation. She is becoming increasingly in demand as a chamber musician and orchestral player as well as continuing her solo career. Born in 1979, Sally Pryce studied at the Purcell School and Royal College of Music with Daphne Boden, graduating in 2001 with first class honours and the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Silver Medal. The Young Concert Artists Trust (YCAT) selected her for representation in 2003. During her studies Sally won numerous national and international prizes including first prize in the 1999 London Harp Competition and in 1998 reached the final six in the prestigious International Harp Contest held in Israel. In 1996 she won the Marisa Robles Harp Prize in the Royal Over-Seas League Competition and was a finalist in the BBC Young Musicians Competition

This is an opportunity not to be missed for all students of the harp.
Harps will be provided for use during the class - no need to bring your own.

HARP TEACHERS' FORUM: 'FROM BEGINNERS TO WINNERS'

GUILDHALL SCHOOL OF MUSIC & DRAMA, LONDON, 10am-6pm

You are warmly invited to attend the first Harp Teachers' Forum, which aims to bring UK harp teachers together for a stimulating day of friendly exchange and dialogue, questions and problem-solving, ideas and demonstrations.

The day will include:
LESSON BITES - the chance to watch live short lessons with 'guinea-pig' beginner, intermediate and advanced students, and to discuss ideas that come up.
MOTIVATING KIDS TO PRACTISE - an interactive workshop to stimulate ideas on this ever-tricky subject.
PROBLEM CLINIC - a panel of harp teachers will discuss issues raised by the participants 
EXHIBITION OF BEGINNER HARPS AND HARP MUSIC
There will be time for both formal and informal discussion on the topics that we all deal with regularly.
SPEAKERS will include
Gabriella Bosio - harp teacher for 32 years, specialising in teaching very young beginners with the Suzuki Method, and author of 'I Play the Harp'.
Charlotte Seale - Professor of Harp at the Guildhall (Senior and Junior), the Royal Academy, the Purcell School and the National Youth Orchestra.
Imogen Barford - Head of Harp at the Guildhall School of Music (Senior), and teacher on the Guildhall String Training Programme (age 5-11)
Karen Vaughan - Head of Harp at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, Senior Harp Tutor at the Royal Academy of Music.
Daphne Boden - Professor in charge of Harp at the Royal College of Music, and professor at the Purcell School.

The day is FREE, and open to all teachers and senior students with an interest in teaching.

Saturday 2nd December 2006: Harpz - The Derbyshire Harp Ensemble presents an Evening of Advent Carols at St Michael's Church Kirk Langley Derbyshire in aid of Church funds and the Leeke Memorial Hall. The first half of the programme with contain popular classics and works studied through the year and the second half following an interval of Mince Pies and Tea will be advent carols and seasonal favourites and readings.

Specialist Leadership Course in Harp Teaching by Helen Naylor-Williams
A Unique Celtic Harp Course.

This course was both inspiring and technical. Professionally, enthusiastically delivered and received at the highest level the course was attended by music specialists with a sense of humour and a yearning towards perfection. Highly intensive in content, the learning curve that they experienced and achieved was evident at the end of the course.

The history of the harp and harp playing in Wales was covered and through intensive tuition they were taught how to teach beginners at the harp through to grade 1, through principles and techniques of harp playing with the aim of promoting harp playing and harp ensembles in Pembrokeshire's schools - adding to the ethos and ambience of the schools, giving pupils a greater learning opportunity to experience their past and present culture.

A wonderful evening was held at the newly established Causeway School of Music in Coleraine, new students to the harp - some of whom has only been playing the harp for a matter of weeks and we able to come together and learn a variety of music to play to Mums and Dads at the end of the evening! Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Away in a Manger and Silent Night were among the numbers learnt. Hazel Drummond the harp teacher over their and students were thrilled with the chance to play together with friends.

The annual Festival for Irish Harp now ranks among the top international harp festivals. It attracts Students from all over the world while maintaining its distinctive Irish identity. Harpers of all standards and styles who want a thoroughly enjoyable time while developing their skills and repertoire should come along. Among the areas covered will be:- Singing to harp Accompaniment, traditional ornamentation and dance music, Session Playing, Ensemble Playing, Music of the Harpers and much more.
