I've been playing the SweetHarp every night since it's
been strung, and it's a joy to hear how quickly it's waking
up! Every night I fall a bit more in love with this amazing
instrument.
When I started developing the SweetHarp I saw its clientele
as: young players whose parents were cautious about spending
thousands of dollars; individuals who want to pursue the
healing harps movement; anyone who simply wants an instrument
they can afford to travel with; and those for whom our
difficult economy has made buying a more costly harp impractical.
But now I see that anyone would be happy
with this harp.
The desire to put an affordable
harp in people’s
hands has always been a part of the Caswell Harps’ mission.
But that's also always been coupled with the desire to
make a really fine harp.
Several years ago, the FairyHarp
opened the door to a flood of new construction ideas
in this direction. Building on them, I continually asked, “What makes a harp
strong, play well, and sound great? And how can it be made
inexpensively without sacrificing those elements?” I
didn’t notice for a long time that what I was doing
was creating a new paradigm for affordable harps.
Hundreds of hours have gone into the design of the SweetHarp
(just ask my wife). The result I now see is without doubt
a radical new chapter in the harp world, and an elegance
of design which is measured by dozens of steps forward.
Here are just a couple of features which hint at the practicality
and tonal quality of the SweetHarp:
• No Tuning Wrench Required – Using
straight-through machine tuners you can tune a string
in real time while you play. No noisy-to-use wrench to
drop on your soundboard or get lost.
• Precisely made parts
which are then locked mechanically together allow me
to use radically improved construction methods. The resulting
instrument is very light, very responsive, very fun,
yet amazingly strong.
Thanks,
Chris Caswell
